Our Recent Publication: Dr. Valinia spoke at the AIAA ASCEND Conference on an "Integrated Strategy for Growing the Space Economy." She discussed the five technical pillars of the strategy (modularity, standardization, interoperability, maintainability, and resource generation) required to enable a circular space economy. She also discussed strategy implementation through industry coordination and adoption, robust R&D and workforce, reformed acquisition strategy and regulation, plus innovative business models. Dr. Valinia spoke at the U.S. Department of Commerce/Office of Space Commerce/NIST/Red Hat Forum on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity discussing strategies for "Cross-Sector Collaboration: Leveraging Commercial Innovation While Ensuring Data Security." She discussed both "technology" and "policy" strategic solutions to ensure our nation’s cybersecurity position in space. You can see the recording of the event here.

Dr. Valinia moderated the "Onward!" panel at the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs. Panelists included leaders from the Aerospace Corporation, Axiom Space, Amazon Leo, Boeing, and the Office of Space Commerce at NOAA. The Onward series is designed to connect the students with industry professionals discussing career paths and advice to the next generation of aerospace leaders.

Dr. Valinia co-organized the workshop on "Microgravity Manufacturing at Scale" at the SpaceNext Conference. Stakeholders from industry, government, and investment communities gathered to devise a path from ISS-era experiments to scalable, profitable commercial manufacturing in microgravity environment aboard commercial space stations. A final report containing actionable recommendations is being prepared and planned to be published by the U.S. Office of Space Commerce.

Dr. Valinia was selected by the U.S. Department of State to participate as a private sector advisor in the Space Situational Awareness (SSA) discussion group within the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS). The SSA group advises on challenges to safe and economically viable operations from an SSA perspective as well as international coordination mechanisms to facilitate information sharing among operators, ultimately supporting continued U.S. innovation and leadership in space.
